Gone Fishing

The National Marine Park funded another round of fishing sessions for Plymouth’s youth and yet again everyone has come away smiling.  It is revealing to see how faces change and people get excited when they catch a fish, no matter how small the fish!

Martyn Green a trained angling coach led the sessions, and his expert knowledge enabled the catch of mackerel, whiting and a conger eel.  He starts the session with a safety brief, scaring people with stories about poisonous weaver fish and reminding us to respect the ocean.

Cornwall Council youth workers identified the young people who wanted to take part and the youth workers provided support during the session.

PFSA are looking to run more of these sessions, hopefully with funding from the National Lottery, as an accompaniment to GCSE classes in fishmongery and for the wider community. We are also looking for fishermen or women who are interested in providing support to the angling coach and possibly becoming an angling coach themselves. Please get in touch if you would like to know more.
